People who are into BDSM aren’t intrinsically broken people who only find their kinks in the ashes of the abuse they’ve suffered and the implication EL James makes of otherwise is incredibly insulting to both people who are into BDSM and victims of abuse
Fuck Fifty Shades of Grey, honestly
You do realize that you’re complaining about a Twillight fanfiction. While what you say is totally true, I… just… why even bother?
That’s fucking why
This is ridiculous. If people seriously just read the fucking book they’d understand that it’s not a twilight fan fiction in any sense of the word. And it’s not offensive to members of the BDSM world. To say that NO ONE who is into BDSM uses it as an escape from past abuse and to have power over their lives is an incorrect generalization, because for all you know, there could be people out there enjoying BDSM for that very reason. Kinks are kinks. People have them for all sorts of reasons. Fifty Shades of Grey is an erotic novel based around BDSM, with it’s OWN backstory. It’s not aiming to make generalizations about either the abused community or the BDSM community. It is a work of fiction. Let it be a work of fiction.
#jesus fuck people just dont understand a kink if they dont have it do they
Not that it’s any of your business but you’re pretty off the mark here about what I’m into
Also Fifty Shades of Grey, in its genesis was literally a Twilight Fanfiction but she changed the names and reworked the story to get it published
My point is that abuse and a BDSM lifestyle are not both integral parts of a grand kink equation and this franchise, however inadvertently or not, pathologizes it
If you wanna stick your head in the sand about it, be my guest
This shit is harmful
